A Message from the Director:
Kaohsiung County is an industrial and agricultural county, with 60% of petrochemistry plants of the nation and over 5000 factories. In the past, pollutions and public nuisance frequently occurred in the county and the county suffered from the highest environment loading in southern Taiwan. In the past few years, under the leadership of the County Mayor Chiu-Hsing Yang who set a policy to protect our beautiful landscape, Kaohsiung County Government made tremendous efforts to improve the environment in the county and we have seen a lot of improvements in pollution prevention. As a public servant, I am also committed to work with the staff of the EPB and all volunteers to fulfill our vision of a country with beautiful landscape and clean environment.
With the joint efforts of our staff in the EPB, Kaohsiung County has accomplished a lot in environmental protection. According to the evaluation of local environmental protection agencies conducted by the Environmental Protection Administration, Executive Yuan, the county had outstanding performances in environmental protection in 2003 and 2004. The county ranked no. 1 both in water pollution control and resource recycling among all counties and cities in Taiwan in 2004. The county has also achieved outstanding performance in implementing the policy of “Clean Home, Beautiful Taiwan”. We have properly solved the problem of waste and water pollution. Fish reappear in our streams and rivers. We believe, with the collaboration of our county residents, Kaohsiung County will become a great example of sustainable development with beautiful landscape.
